To all Gilmer County Hams:
On June 27
and 28, the Ellijay Amateur Radio Society will be conducting its annual
field day exercise. The purpose of the exercise is to train for and
demonstrate our ability to deploy and establish emergency
communications stations for operation during disaster situations. We
will be setting up in the Coosawattee River Resort at the North Park on
Edgewater.
During the 24-hour period of the event, thousands of
amateur radio operators throughout North America will be participating
in this exercise. The goal is to make contact with as many other North
American stations as possible under crowded band conditions. This
simulates radio band conditions that might exist during actual disaster
situations.
In addition, on Saturday, June 27 at 6:00 PM, we
will hold our annual club cookout at the field day site. You and a
guest are cordially invited to join us for the cookout and to get a
first-hand look at our emergency station setups. You are also invited
to participate in the field day operation, set up and clean up.
To gain access to our location, please take Old
Highway 5 South to Ellington Road. Turn right onto Ellington Road and
proceed to the Coosawattee River Resort gate. Give the attendant your
name, and state that you will be visiting the Ellijay Amateur Radio
Society gathering at North Park on Edgewater. You will be given a
window sticker for your vehicle.
Once admitted, follow the signs to our location. We hope to see you there. Note:(see announcement below)
The favor of a reply regarding your and a guest's
attendance at the cook out would be appreciated so we can plan our
supplies quantities for the cook out. Also, if you plan to attend to
operate tell me which station you would prefer to work with: EARS/ARES
HF SSB Station, EARS HF SSB Station, or EARS HF CW Station. If you can
help with set up, and clean up, etc.
Sincerely,
David Barlitt (KF4AWU) 2009 Ellijay Amateur Radio Society Feild Day Chairman

EARS Field Day June 27 & 28
To All:
I am truly amazed and gratified at the wonderful way we have been
accepted and welcomed by the Coosawattee River Resort Association
(CRRA). This is of course in no small way due to the efforts of Tom
Koch - W4UOC. I called and emailed Gail
Williamson, CRRA Director of Security, in which she advised that they
have decided to man the Ellington Road entrance booth on Friday, June
26 from 10 am until 6 PM and on Saturday, June 27 from 10 am until 6 PM. In
addition, they will hand out a window sticker to every car entering for
the field day event for those who don't already have them. During
those periods, those who need to leave the resort and have a window
sticker on their car will, upon their return, be waved through the gate
by the attendant. For those who need to enter after those times, the
procedure will be to go to the Ellington Road entrance booth and press
the button for the remote attendant. Tell him/her that you are going the
EARS amateur radio event at North Park.
Those later arrivers will receive a window sticker when they arrive at
the North Park site. Those few station managers and helpers who may go
to the site on Friday evening, June 26, to re-assess the antenna and
station layouts should enter via the Ellington Road gate. They will
receive a sticker when they arrive at the North Park site.
Sincere thanks to Gail Williamson and to Tom Koch.
73, Dave
